Tennis NewsPublished: July 21, 2009, Richmond Tennis Association website Raintree Summer Slam is Just That by Charles Tilley This week Raintree Swim & Racquet Club was the site for an L5 tennis tournament affiliated with the RTA. There was a very strong turnout in all age divisions, Boys' and Girls' 12s-16s. Instead of having doubles in this tournament like most others do, Eddie Parker, the head pro at Raintree, decided to have a consolation bracket for each singles division. This guaranteed that each child played at least two matches. This is much better for the player who might lose their first round match and in another tournament be forced to head home. Instead, they continue on in the consolation bracket. The weather was not too extreme in terms of heat and all players seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves on the court. All the finals but one were played on Thursday. Complete results can be found at tennislink.usta.com/Tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=75809 but the winners are listed below.
