Dominion Club Holds Largest RJTC Event of Summer
by Charles Tilley
Out at Dominion Club on Saturday a staggering 108 players entered the Richmond Junior Tennis Circuit event. This is the largest entrant field of any RJTC tournament yet this summer and matches endured late through the afternoon to early evening. The players battled it out on the blue clay of Dominion, no one giving an inch in pursuit of a tournament victory and the accompanying trophy. There were seven contested divisions out of a possible eight, meaning the tournament could have been even more sizeable.
Girls’ 10 Singles: Brianna Oster def. Audrey Butterworth 6-4.
Girls’ 12 Singles: Carly Feyerabend def. Emily Wu 6-3.
Girls’ 14 Singles: Hannah Jenkins def. Lilly Ellick 6-3.

The Dominion Club played host to this week’s installment of the RJTC tournament series. Dominion has mostly clay courts, but several hard courts as well. |
Joe Cappellino, head pro at Dominion Club, was the chief tournament director for the day. He did everything from handing out shirts to updating score sheets.

While it was a novice tournament, there were still some players hitting with good power. This is evidenced by players such as McLain Faett ripping forehands.
|
Players like Andrew Caldwell were also showing off big strokes. Andrew has just struck a crisp backhand.

|
Marc Petrine is exhibiting nice technique, using nice knee bend to strike a forehand.
|
Of course, as with all RTA events, sportsmanship was paramount. Patrick Reagan (right) and McLain Faett (left) are shaking hands after a tightly contested singles match.

Who can resist the temptation to use the Tennie Two-Step after a tough match on the clay?
|
And for those lucky enough to endure all the way to the finals of
their event, a gorgeous trophy awaited them.
